About Us

Care has always been a family responsibility. It just has not had the infrastructure to support it

If you are reading this, there is a good chance you already know how it feels.

You call.
You send money.
You arrange the appointment.
You check in again.
You ask a sibling to help.
You step in when something goes wrong.

Somewhere along the way, without ever really deciding to, you became “the one who handles it.”

There is rarely a single moment when you become responsible for an ageing parent. It builds quietly over time. A parent starts needing help with medication. Money gets tighter each month.

A sibling overseas wants to help but does not know how. You are accountable for making sure someone you love is okay, but you have limited information, limited control and limited help.

That is the invisible responsibility of caring for an ageing parent. We see it, we understand it, and it is exactly why we are building Kini.

The responsibility no one sees

Caring for a parent as they get older is one of the most important things you will ever do, and one of the least visible.

It happens in the cracks of everyday life. A WhatsApp message here, a bank transfer there and a promise to yourself to remember something later.

Who paid last month? When is Mum’s next appointment? Is there enough for groceries? Did Dad collect his medication? What has already been handled? What is everyone else actually doing to help?

It is not that families do not care. They care deeply. The difficulty is that care is often scattered, unevenly shared and hard to coordinate, particularly when family members live in different cities or countries and have different amounts of time and money to give.

When no one can see the full picture, it becomes far too easy for one person to carry almost all of the responsibility.

You have been doing an incredible job with very little support. You should not have to hold everything in your head or carry it alone.

Why we started Kini

Kini was founded by Rudo and Sisi, who met through the Jasiri Talent Investor Programme.

We were brought together by a shared belief that some of the biggest problems are hiding in plain sight, quietly affecting ordinary families without the tools or support they need.

As we spoke to adult children, caregivers and ageing parents, we kept hearing the same story. Families wanted to help. They genuinely wanted to do right by one another. But bringing everything together was the difficult part.

Money moved between people without anyone seeing the full picture. Whoever lived closest, noticed the need first or naturally took charge ended up holding everything together. The honest conversations about money, time and responsibility often happened only after something had already gone wrong.

It was not a lack of love. It was a lack of visibility, coordination and support. That is where Kini began.

What Kini is

Kini turns the invisible responsibility of caring for an ageing parent into something families can see, share and act on.

It gives families one place to understand what is needed, coordinate who can help and make sure the right support reaches their parent, even when they are far away. With Kini, families can:

Bring care needs into one shared place

Invite family members to contribute

See who has contributed and how much

Understand what has already been taken care of

Make sure contributions translate into practical support

Care together, even from different cities or countries

Because love may be the reason families step in, but love alone does not organize appointments, divide responsibilities or make sure the groceries and medication arrive. Care works better when families can see it, share it and act on it together.

Where we are going

We are starting with the everyday needs families already struggle to manage, but our vision is much bigger.

We want Kini to become the trusted home of ageing parent care: the first place families think of and the central place through which care is understood, coordinated and delivered.

Over time, families will be able to turn to Kini for everything related to an ageing parent, from shared financial contributions, groceries and healthcare to medication, transport, appointments, emergencies, companionship and the many small things that help a parent feel supported.

We want Kini to feel like the sibling, friend or trusted companion who is always paying attention. The one who remembers what needs to happen, notices what may have been missed, checks in and helps everyone understand what comes next.

Not just a platform that waits for a crisis, but a proactive care companion that helps families stay one step ahead.

Our Vision

A world where every ageing parent is cared for with dignity, consistency and love, and no family has to navigate that responsibility alone.

Our ambition is for Kini to become the trusted home of ageing parent care, helping families everywhere care for ageing parents, anywhere.

Our Mission

To make the invisible responsibility of caring for an ageing parent visible, shared and easier to act on.

We bring the people, information and practical support involved in care into one place, helping families understand what is needed, coordinate who can help and ensure the right support reaches their parent, even from far away.

Compassion

Care is deeply personal. We approach every family and every ageing parent with warmth, patience and understanding.

Shared Responsibility

Care should not quietly become one person’s burden. We help families contribute according to the time, money and capacity each person has.

Dignity

Ageing parents are people, not tasks to be managed. Their needs, choices, independence and humanity remain at the centre of their care.

Clarity and Trust

Families should be able to understand what is needed, what has already been handled and where help is still required. They should also feel confident that their contributions are reaching the parent and purpose they were intended for.

Proactive Care

Families should not have to wait for a crisis before taking action. We want to help them notice changing needs, remember what matters and stay one step ahead.

Care without borders

Distance should not determine how present you can be. Whether family members live nearby, in another city or in another country, they should still be able to care together.

Let’s care together

Whatever has changed, and whatever comes next, you do not have to figure it all out alone. Let Kini help your family understand what is needed, share the responsibility and make sure the right support reaches the person you love.
